Updated, Wednesday, November 16, 2016, 12:10 a.m.: The Los Angeles Planning Commission has approved Rick Caruso’s 19-story luxury tower near the Beverly Center despite some objections over its height.
The proposed luxury building would bring 145 residential units, ground-floor commercial space and 28,700 square feet of public space to what was previously the Loehmann’s at 333 La Cienega Boulevard.
Plans for the new building, which would sit on the triangular space bounded by West Third Street, La Cienega and San Vincente would require a zoning change and general plan amendment. The proposal now goes to the Planning and Land Use Management Committee.
Caruso, the developer behind the Grove and the Americana, agreed to set aside 13 units for middle and low-income tenants in exchange for the accommodations to the building’s height.
