Iconic interior designer Barbara Barry has listed her Beverly Hills home for $8 million, The Real Deal has learned. Her touches cover every inch of the 5,000-square-foot property, which is tucked high in the hills and surrounded by park-like private gardens with roses and citrus trees.
The five-bedroom house contains furniture, fabrics, wall coverings, carpeting and rugs by Barry, who designed furniture for the likes of Baker, lighting for Boyd and bedding for Bloomingdales, in addition to running her own interior design company. The interior was designed with an understated pastel palette.

The traditional home, influenced by the English architectural flourishes of a country estate, seems fit for someone obsessed with her work, but if a buyer wants the house without her designs, there would be a $1.1 million discount to the listing price, said Ernie Carswell of Teles’ Properties’ Carswell Collection, who listed the property along with Thomas Glabman of Hilton & Hyland.
“The best value is to buy the house with her flourishes, because you could not hire her for that price…the content is worth more than a million dollars,” Carswell said, defining her design taste as the epitome of restraint in largely unrestrained La La Land.

“Rarely in L.A .do we see this type of residence become available, especially with the current craze of uber-hyped ultra contemporaries with large spaces that lack personality,” he said. “[Barry’s home] is the highest example I know of of cultivated taste from the architecture to the carpets. I mean, all of it is her.”
The property on Bowmont Drive sits on a 19,384-square-foot lot.
